September 2022 Events at the Calvert Marine Museum – Southern Maryland News Net

Oh, my hearts! As we begin a new month and welcome the fall season, we invite everyone to take advantage of the many programs CMM has to offer. A full list of programs and activities is available at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com.

From Wednesday to Friday, the month of September – Wm. B. Tennison Public Cruise 2 p.m.

Saturdays and Sundays in September – Wm. B. Tennison Public Cruise 2 p.m. and 3:10 p.m., Relax and enjoy a one-hour river cruise aboard the Wm. B Tennison, a bugeye built of logs. The capacity can accommodate 40 guests. In case of bad weather, you will be warned by the crew before the cruise.

Thursdays September 1 and 8 – Sea jets: 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., Children from 18 months to 3 years old, accompanied by an adult, are invited to discover the museum together through music, stories and special activities. Join us for a story hour and craft to go, available while supplies last. Sessions last 20 to 45 minutes. Free with admission to the museum. Capacity is limited; register at the admissions office upon arrival. This month’s theme is Squirrels!

Fridays 2 and 16 Sept. Dee of St. Mary Sunset Sail (adults only) 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Join us for a 2-hour public sail on the historic ship Dee of St. Mary, and experience the Patuxent River aboard an iconic Chesapeake Bay Skipjack. Guests will have the opportunity to help raise and lower the sail. This Friday night cruise is adults only and you are welcome to BYOB. The capacity can accommodate 30 guests. Friday, September 9 – Evening at the Museum for disabled friends 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., The museum and grounds will be open exclusively to people with disabilities and their families, friends or caregivers from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This FREE event is offered in cooperation with Calvert County Parks and Recreation (TRS) Therapeutic Recreation Services. Meet the museum’s otter mascot, learn about fish, fossils, river otters, rays and rays, maritime history, and enjoy activities in the Discovery Room. Explore Boat Basin and Drum Point Lighthouse.

A quiet room will be available. The museum shop will be open and stocked with items for all ages and interests. Cruise on the Wm. B. Tennison at 5 p.m., 5:45 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. PRE-REGISTRATION IS MANDATORY for each person to climb Wm. B. Tennison – Dial 410-535-1600, ext. 8204 or 8205 to register for tennis cruise. Sunday September 11 – CMM Fossil Club meeting and public lecture 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Quarterly meeting of the CMM Fossil Club followed by a public conference (more details to come), starting at 3 p.m. The meeting and the conference will be held in person in the Harms gallery of the museum.

Thursdays, September 15, 22 and 29 – Little minnows 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., This program revolves around one of the three themes of the museum. Preschoolers ages 3-5, accompanied by an adult, are invited to join us for story time and a craft that you can make on site or take home, available until exhaustion of stocks. Sessions last 25 to 40 minutes. Register at the admissions office when you arrive. This month’s theme is Squirrels!

Saturday September 17 – Pirate Day 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Hey Scallywags! Put on your best pirate outfit and head to the museum for some fun. Craft a pirate flag, build a toy pirate ship, get a pirate tattoo and walk the plank! Sing pirate songs at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Activities included with admission to the museum.

Tuesday September 20 – CMM members save 20% in the museum shop All day –Museum members get a 20% discount in the Museum Shop today and on the 20th of every month. Museum store staff also offer private Zoom sessions for a unique virtual shopping experience. Purchases can be shipped via USPS, Priority Mail or held at the store for curbside pickup

Saturday September 24 – Construction of toy boats 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., Build a toy boat in the Corbin Nature Pavilion! Space and materials are limited. Visitors will be welcomed on a first come, first served basis. From 5 years. Admission to the museum required, with a suggested donation of $2 per boat. Sponsored by the Patuxent Small Craft Guild.
