The Museum Association of New York is partnering with the William G. Pomeroy Foundation for a fifth round of the Pomeroy Fund for NYS History, which would provide a total of $100,000 in salary support/hourly wages to bring back or hire educators from museum.
Grants of up to $5,000 will support educators at New York State history-related museums who plan and deliver interpretive programs, including school programs, teen programs, early years, family days, festivals, programs for older adults, programs for new Americans, or targeted programs. , programs specific to an audience identified in the grant application.
“Museum educators play a critical role in our understanding and interpretation of history,” said Deryn Pomeroy, director of strategic initiatives and administrator of the Pomeroy Foundation, in a press release. “Their important work has a tangible impact on communities and people of all ages.”
Funding is not to be used as a substitute for budgeted salaries and staff hours, but may be used to augment staff hours for the agreed purpose. The funds will be grants to museums requesting educational staff who will deliver in-person programs, but programs may include a virtual component.
Eligible applicants must be a history-related 501(c)(3) organization located in New York State and have an annual operating budget of $250,000 or less.
Applications will be accepted until September 23. Successful applicants will be notified no later than October 21. Grants must be used within one year of disbursement; all funds must be spent by October 31, 2023.
Grant applications will be reviewed by a panel including many of the Pomeroy Foundation board members and staff. Grants are available to all qualified organizations; an organization does not need to be a MANY member to receive funding, nor will preference be given to MANY members.
